  1. If you’ve had a biopsy and it shows some miniaturization of the hair follicles, does that always indicate androgenic alopecia?

    1. Hi Steffany Henderson,
It is highly likely that it androgenetic/androgenic alopecia. Keep in mind that androgenetic alopecia does make up about 95 of hair loss cases. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    2. Hi@Ashley Judd,
Androgenetic alopecia is the leading cause of hair thinning, but some hair thinning as we get older is normal, even if it progresses very slowly and is not noticeable hair loss. In some people, this type of slow, progressive hair thinning is a good thing because it makes thicker, coarser hair more manageable with time. I hope this clarifies things for you.

  2. hi doctor im from sri lanka i cant come for tricostem in sri lanka im doing prp ( my hair was thining )and use multivitamins how to
My problem is how to maintain prp
Treatment and when i stop doing prp what happen

    1. Hi Yesara Madubasini,
Since PRP alone stimulates short-term hair growth, you will likely have to do continuous maintenance. It is difficult to say what will happen if you stop it as the extent of your hair loss, and the effectiveness of PRP in your case are unclear, but generally PRP alone requires continuous treatment. People see us for the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment because they are frustrated with the results, and continuous treatment of PRP alone. I hope this clarifies things for you.

  3. dr since FPHL can start from teens ……is it possible to slow down the start of FPHL by following a very healthy Lifestyle ?

    1. Hi Anju m,,
Female pattern hair loss is caused by genetics, not by nutrition, as detailed in the video. I hope this clarifies things for you

    2. Hi@Anu m,
Stress-related hair shedding is called telogen effluvium, and it does not cause pattern hair loss. Pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning caused by genetics, not by stress. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    3. Hi@Anu m,
As already explained, stress-related hair shedding is a separate issue. Pattern hair loss is genetic, and it does not get accelerated by other factors aside from genetics. I hope this clarifies things for you.

  4. Hii Dr. Amiya prasad
I want to know whether its true or not that the main reason of male pattern baldness is not DHT, its that androgen receptor are more sensetive to DHT. I get to know about this on the internet
Just wanna know whether its true or not.

    1. Hi Roman Reigns,
A major cause of male pattern hair loss is DHT-sensitivity, as not all men have a DHT-sensitive scalp, but all men have a high level of DHT in their system. Level of DHT-sensitivity also varies among men, which is seen in the level of aggressiveness of hair loss. You can refer to this video about the different factors of pattern hair loss in men, and how they are treated – https://youtu.be/d0tddJt6OME

  5. Hi doctor I’m eighteen years old female from pakistan (female genetically baldness) Can familial baldness be treated in women?

    1. Hi Haider Ali,
Yes, it can be treated, as shown in the video because female pattern hair loss is a genetic condition, and is often inherited. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    2. Hi doctor, How to start treatment for familial baldness and how long it lasts. And what is the treatment for it, surgery or medicine

    3. Hi@Haider Ali,
Have you watched the video yet? It answers the questions you have, and shows the results of the treatment.

  6. Hello sir.. Is it alright to take finasteride after prp treatment? Is there any side effects? Will there be any shedding?

    1. Hi Ramdinthara Tlau,
I prescribe finasteride to younger male pattern hair loss patients who undergo scalp injection treatment, because PRP, or ACell+PRP do not block DHT. The risk of side effects from finasteride is only about 2% of users, so they’re very rare, and the vast majority of men taking the drug do not have side effects. Increased temporary hair shedding happens in some finasteride users, and can last up to 6 months. I hope this clarifies things for you.

  7. I have genetic alopecia and I’m 21 I have 2 big bald spots on the side of my head . Do you know any clinical trials open in Ohio ?

    1. Hi Jloud,
Sorry to hear about your problem. Bald spots are not normally associated with female pattern hair loss, as thinning occurs throughout the scalp. I’m not sure what you mean by clinical trials as we are not undergoing clinical trials, as the treatment has been in use on patients since 2011.

Our offices are located in Manhattan, New York City which you can call at (212) 265-8877; Garden City, Long Island at (516) 742-4636; or Vienna, Virginia at (703) 356-1336. 8. Hello sir ..i am a 21 year old male from india..i had itching in my scalp..followed by hair loss..it was not .. aggressive in starting days..but after it progressed hair loss persisted..after i used anti itching shampoo.itching got away..but the newer problem came of androgentic alopecia…and it also aided hair loss..i recently conusulted a doctor he gave me topical minoxidil..and some multivitamins..and it showed its result..i a happy with the results..but after the usage of about 3 months now..i want to stop ..the use of minoxidil…sir how can i do that.. currently i use it once a day..Thank you..sir..

    1. Hi Aafaq rasool,
It’s not clear if you have androgenetic alopecia as it’s a progressive condition of hair thinning, so it doesn’t start suddenly.

Minoxidil won’t thicken your hair, or stop hair loss, but it appears to delay the hair shedding cycle, and extends the hair growth cycle so you appear to have more hair on your head. You will have to use it daily to sustain these effects, but these effects can also decrease with time even if you use it daily. Since minoxidil delays the hair shedding cycle, and prolongs the hair growth cycle, if you stop using it, you will likely have a significant hair shed. I suggest you consult your doctor about weaning yourself off minoxidil to prevent a sudden hair shed.

As for androgenetic alopecia, these videos feature the factors for men, and how we diagnose and treat it in our male patients:

  9. Hi again doctor
Sorry one other question! My biopsy also said the sebaceous glands were “prominent” so how does one with aga decrease the oily scalp problem?? I hate it I don’t want to have to wash my hair every single day on top of having aga now. It’s already so distressing enough 🙁

    1. Hi Sia W,
Washing your hair every day is not something you should be averse to, and daily hair washing will not accelerate or worsen pattern hair loss. If you want other treatments for an oily scalp, you can consult a dermatologist as it’s something beyond my practice focus. I hope this helps you.

  10. I’m 30 year old female. Used to have extremely thick hair until puberty. Started facing hairloss after puberty but its now that i have started noticing my visible scalp on the back of my head. Almost 15 years since hairfall started. What could be the reason? Have used minoxidil on and off. Have been diagnosed with pcos but without any other symptoms except hairloss.

    1. Hi Deepika Chaudhary,
Sorry to hear about your problem. An examination is needed for a proper diagnosis, but it could be PCOS, female pattern hair loss, or even both. For PCOS-related hair loss, hormone therapy prescribed by your gynecologist can help stabilize hormone levels, and promote hair growth, but it’s unclear if you underwent this treatment. Minoxidil delays natural hair shedding so you have more hair on your scalp, but if you use it on and off, you can experience increased hair shedding. A proper diagnosis as featured in the video is needed for female pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.

  11. Hi sir, i am from India. I have started my treatment for PRP n microneedling from November-2021. I have visible patches of my scalp in the centre n few at right n left side in the front part. I’m 28 years old. I have done 2 prp n 1 microneedling session but after it I got COVID in January n after that facing severe hairfall. I didnt find much difference in hairfall after the prp treatment. Kindly suggest me should I still continue prp? After how many sessions of prp can I see visible results in the mirror. I’m still losing my hair.

    1. Hi Ayesha Shaikh,
Sorry to hear that, but the treatment I feature in my videos is not PRP alone, and I don’t apply microneedling with this treatment. Also, the cause of your hair loss has not been confirmed since bald patches are not a sign of female pattern hair loss, while diffuse hair thinning, and a widening of the hair part are. You can refer to this video you are commenting on about how female pattern hair loss is diagnosed, and these other videos about the differences of our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration from PRP alone, and why I find scalp microneedling to be ineffective: https://youtu.be/xSMTd9qVwNo

  12. Hello Dr ,
Can you recommend a doctor that has similar treatment options like you in the UK,
I have severe hair loss on my crown and a bit lower.
    Thank you
    Dianne

    1. Hi Dianne,
Sorry, but according to my patients from the UK, as well as my own research, there is no similar or comparable treatment to TrichoStem Hair Regeneration in the UK. Since only 1-2 treatment sessions are needed for 3-5 years of benefit, with the second treatment done 15-24 months after the first if it’s needed at all, we do get a lot of patients from the UK, and from around the world for this treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.

  13. Hello Sir,
i am suffering from androgenic alopecia from past 8 years , there is visible difference now. i tried minoxidil and PRP both. but in both treatment first 3 months I see positive difference in my hairloss but after hairloss get worse. i feel for every treatment in start i see a significant change but it stop working for 3 or 2 month. i tried everything but still its getting worse everyday. please suggest

    1. Hi shital malviya,
Sorry to hear about your problem. The TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment featured in the video is not PRP alone, as only 1-2 treatment sessions yield benefits for 3-5 years, and you can stop using minoxidil after our treatment. You can watch the video more closely to see the difference it can make for you.

  14. Hello Sir,
I am suffering from androgenic alopecia since 4-5 years , I’m 27 now there is visible thinning and hair loss my scalp(CHRISTMAS TREE PATTERN) I think I’m stage 2. I have PCOS but hair loss is the only problem. do you think controlling PCOS might help stop the pattern or there is no way?

    1. Hi Shabnam Majnooni,
Sorry to hear about your problem. While treating PCOS can treat related hair thinning, it is possible to have PCOS and female pattern hair loss concurrently, and in such cases additional treatment is needed like that featured in the video. I hope this clarifies things for you.

  15. Hello sir I am from India
My hair turned to redish colour on full head..
After some times the hair on the top part starts falling and thinned
I am testing evary kind of tests . But no achivement
The d3 and b12 are low.. so the supplements are also using…
The hair on donor also thin but density is good compare with top.. it’s that androgen alopecia or vitamin defficiency hairloss?

    1. Hi Sachin S,
Sorry to hear about your problem, but there is generally no hair loss cause by vitamin deficiencies, although significant malnutrition may make hair brittle and prone to breakage at the shaft. You do need to have a proper scalp examination by an experienced doctor to diagnose for pattern hair loss/ androgenetic alopecia. I hope this clarifies things for you.

  16. Thanks for replying sir. But is there any chances of hair regrowth after having female pattern hairloss

    1. Hi Trendy Apsara,
Yes, the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment can stimulate hair growth from dormant hair follicles currently not growing hair, but are still viable. However, it cannot revive hair follicles that are permanently miniaturized due to pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.

  17. Around 2 years ago I noticed a lot more hairfall in the shower with a white bulb on the end that has not stopped since then. I read online that the white bulb on all of my shedding hairs is indicative of telogen effluvium. But could it still be female pattern baldness?

    1. Hi A XP,
Telogen effluvium is stress-related hair shedding that happens suddenly, while female pattern baldness is progressive hair thinning that happens over a longer period. Female pattern hair loss doesn’t stop suddenly as it’s a genetic condition that isn’t cured, but it can be managed to maximize hair thickness. You can refer to this video about the differences between telogen effluvium and pattern hair loss – https://youtu.be/wuYmEGj_Wyg

  18. Thanks doc, for responding to everyone, I’m a 20 year old girl, in my college year. I have been facing hair thinning and severe hairfall since 6 years. I tried treatment twice, and since then i had no other issues, like thyroid or PCOS or nutrition deficiency, except the fact the I’m a bit obeese now. Day by day it’s falling out more and the right side of my scalp is completely visible. It’s so tough for me to hide it everytime. I had depression for other reasons, but this one worsens it even more. I personally think it’s androgenic alopecia. Can you please say if there’s any cute for it. I don’t have the guts to go bald, at such a young age. Please reply and guide me a bit.

    1. Hi Samriddhi Pal,
Sorry to hear about your problem. You can refer to the video on how we can thicken thinning hair, and stimulate hair growth from hair follicles currently not growing in women with androgenic alopecia. However, the androgenic alopecia is a condition hardwired into the DNA, so it can’t be completely cured, or reversed. Treatment is about management go get as much scalp coverage as possible, for as long as possible, but not a total cure. I hope this clarifies things for you.

  19. I started losing my hair in early 2021 after stressful exams! It used to shed in clumps and I noticed mainly from the nape from my hair. My hair part also widened from the hairloss. The hair shed continued for approx one year before it started to slow down. My hairfall is considerably less noww but the hair at the nape of my neck is SO sparse. Will I ever regrow the lost hair? Is it telogen effluvium or female pattern hairloss?
(I also lost 10kgs in 2 months in late 2021 and was diagnosed with subclinical hyperthyroidism which the dr said was due to stress. My thyroid profile is normal now.)

    1. Hi Amelia,
Sorry to hear about your problem. Shed hair due to severe stress (telogen effluvium) does grow back without medical treatment. Pattern hair loss happens when shed hair grows back thinner with every growth cycle, until it grows back very thin, then stops growing altogether. It is possible to have both pattern hair loss, and telogen effluvium concurrently, so a proper examination is needed. I hope this clarifies things for you.
