5 Reasons I Prefer SYNTHETIC HAIR over HUMAN HAIR // Synthetic hair has been my best hair friend for years! While I do wear human hair occasionally, today I give 5 reasons why I tend to prefer synthetic hair. Hint: Living in Texas has a lot to do with it! While I love human hair wigs and toppers, synthetic wigs and toppers are probably going to keep the top spot in my heart for the foreseeable future…which do you prefer and why?

    2. Hi i have a question. Is synthetic hair was okay to put on me? Like i have synthetic hair tape extens. Can i washed it?

    3. Thank you I am new to this I bought both 2 weeks ago and like both so far still learning so much info IT”S OVERWHELMING
like you I’m lazy with my hair I’ll put my hair in a ponytail/bun/pulled back with a clip in a heartbeat and I’m good
I just want a wig I can slap on an go that’s what I’m after The human hair one has bangs no problem it’s truly a slap on and go
the synthetic with baby hair just on the forehead area really thick (didn’t notice when purchased) it’s does it’s own thing don’t like that part and don’t quite know how to style it yet I just brush in with hair doesn’t look awful but need to explore what to do with it and I love my natural “baby hair” I don’t like the forced look women are sporting (now some look natural and beautiful) because I love this wig and it’s getting a lot of complements and questions not that I care what others think but it is nice to hear

  1. This came at a perfect time for me! I’ve been considering purchasing my first HH piece and I’ve been trying to weigh the pros and cons. The maintenance and styling are scaring me off. I am a low maintenance girl and can’t do styling to save my life! Thanks for putting your two cents out there.

    1. It’s an acquired skill, I think, so don’t shy away from it. I think everyone should try it, truly. Also, I haven’t forgotten just have been crazy job-wise and I have some travel coming up. Coffee soon! Hope this is the right Erin and you know what I am talking about, lol…

  2. I love synthetic! I’m lazy and I like to have perfect looking hair so synthetic wins! Plus I can buy 8 to 10 pieces for same price of human so it’s win win!

  3. GURL you know I’m lazy and I love my synthetic. Hah! So glad the human hair crisis is over by getting a decent synthetic option!

  4. I got a tip for the human hair discoloration that happens after a while. Dye it! I recently dyed my 1 year old topper with a store brought kit and the colour + hydration made it look so much nicer, almost like new.
I’ve only tried 1 synthetic topper, but it was very poofy in the back, so it looked fake and just not my style 🙁 I wish I could find a synthetic topper that looks perfectly flat in the back. Any tips?
Also, any tips about transitioning from a piece with fringe to one without a fringe without your co-workers figuring out that you wear fake hair? I’m having that dilema now…

    1. Yes! Adding color on top adds a bit of a coating and gets into the hair/cuticle (I might not be explaining this 100% scientifically correct) to fill it in and revives it a bit! Great tip.

With toppers, many of them (esp the larger-sized ones) have permatease in them to help give shape. This can be tamed by aiming a blow dryer on low at the PT. Some Jon Renau has no PT and the BelleTress toppers I’ve tried don’t, either.

  5. Synthetic! All the way. So sick of fading color and frizzier with human hair! And I wore human hair for 14 years so I know!

  6. Both. Just got my first real hair ever and honestly, I’m overwhelmed! It feels nice and moves nice but it’s a lot of steps to keep! Synthetic, put on. End of steps…

  7. I totally get it in terms of the humidity, sleekness, and styling, (also my synthetic wigs last wayyy longer). I’m just so afraid of the way it looks in sunlight, plasticy. Synthetic is better for me at night, human hair in the day.

    1. Abi Nyxx That’s a really good point about night & day. May be good to have both kinds for those reasons.

  8. I’m team synthetic! I don’t have to style the wigs. The style perks back up upon washing AND doesn’t frizz!

  9. OmG yes! I hate having the “red hue” in EVERY single color that Human hair has NO MATTER what you do to it. Annoying & disheartening in so many ways…

  10. Thanks ! For this video -I had waist length hair and started missing it so decided I would try extensions for length yesterday! My stylist wouldn’t stop commenting how much better and how much longer human lasts -but your references/facts are a great debate for it

  11. I used to HATE synthetic! Over the years I’ve learned the truth… if you know what you are doing you can tweak a synthetic wig to look natural. The style LASTS, low maintenance, etc. Synthetic is the truth!

  12. I switched from human hair to synthetic. My first wig was Veronica by Jon Renau, my second was Blake. Blake was just perfect, i payed for her a sh!t lot of money, she is full hand tide, 100% human, lace front, everything.. but gosh, how much i got fed up from styling… and she was getting ungly and frizzy and the lace get fried.. and i my soul was crying for the money i spend for her including the JN care products.. Thn i just needed new wig.. i didnt had tht much budget for new blake so I got Mirage by Ellen Wille.. ok, she was also like 500 euro, but.. I am amazed.. mirage is HD wig, when is getting frizzy i just straight her with flat iron and is like new again, no blow drying, simple styling, realistic hair density, when i want some curls, they stay until I straight the wig.. Iam working as a nurse, i have a lot of shits and when Iam free.. i just dont want to waste a time at washing and styling a wig.. now i got at clearance Columbia by Belle Tress for summer and yah, iam really amazed.. I dont think so, tht I will ever come back to human hair..

  13. When I had long hair I really didn’t like styling it, so synthetic hair extensions is the wayyyyyy to go. Also I’m a student on budget, so it’s more affordable

  14. Definitely synthetic! They always ask me how I keep my curl pattern. Synthetic, duh! I love them, take them out, put them on, add powder ✔️

  15. Just had a bad experience with a human hair wig, but all the synthetic hair I have is mostly just brilliant… and affordable! To get a decent quality human hair wig, you need to spend. And synthetics can be so silky and soft, you don’t have to fork out for human hair for that. And I love playing with colours. I have blue wigs, rainbow wigs, pink wigs, purple wigs… love them for a bit of dazzle and fun! I also have hair my own colour and they’re wonderful. I do have to say I prefer synthetic. Right now I’m adoring silver grey shades and have a few synthetics in that colour – some just straight, some with different coloured streaks added. And if you have a number of synthetic wigs for the price of one human hair wig, you have more possibilities. Besides, playing with wigs gives my natural hair a rest and, as you said, human hair is SO time consuming, wig or not! I always buy heat resistant synthetics so if I want to, I can change the style as I please. I’ve had wavy wigs which looked excellently better after a go with my straighteners – and vice versa. But synthetic wigs are just there for you, shove them on and go, don’t waste your precious time styling when you don’t have to – and for a really quick rush job, just put a headband around your lace front wig – et voila! Instant headband wig and you don’t see any of your hairline – much better for putting up in a quick pony tail too. (And of course I always use a mister spray on my synthetic wigs before I use anything heated. Helps them last longer, besides, you’d never put a heated styler on your own natural hair for fear of damage, works for synthetics too, although all they need is a spray of water before you style.) Sorry for rambling, but this is my passion!

  16. I wear toppers and am happy with synthetic for all the reasons you mention- but mainly because I don’t have to style it. I have lately been looking at hh but am not very inspired to purchase. My concern is that I want to wear it straight, but I only get to see the photos of curled toppers. I’ve contacted a few companies about this. But it’s a lot of money to pay without not being able to really see what I’m getting- in it’s straight form.

  17. Synthetic all the way! My hair is naturally curly and I spent so much on curly human hair wigs and they didn’t at all look as natural on me as a synthetic straight wig. Something about synthetic hair didn’t look as fake. Human hair didn’t look cute on me at all. Also the glue and the freeze spray broke me out when I wore lace front human hair wigs. Synthetic is easier
